About CIPA

Director's Welcome

Welcome to the web site for the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs (CIPA), a graduate M.P.A. program.

For more than a century, Cornell University has been committed to preparing students for public leadership roles. Opportunities are expanding rapidly for capable, creative individuals who aspire to influence and formulate public policy, both in the United States and in other countries.

Whether you are building a new career or seeking to change professions, Cornell’s program offers you unusual depth and breadth, and unparalleled flexibility of study.

Cornell’s extensive academic resources (more than 4,000 courses and an internationally recognized faculty), paired with CIPA’s dedicated Core Faculty, make it possible for you to choose your area of concentration within public policy. The program spans the entire university, with more than ninety faculty members from leading schools, departments, and programs who welcome CIPA students into their courses and serve on thesis committees.

In addition to obtaining an outstanding education, you will also be entering an extended community of alumni.  You can find Cornell public affairs graduates in all levels of government as well as at foundations, consulting firms, the United Nations, the World Bank, the Peace Corps, nongovernmental organizations, universities, and in the private sector.

This web site is designed to offer you a glimpse into the wide array of options and opportunities that come with a program as flexible as ours. But do not stop here. Plan a visit to the Cornell campus where you can explore study options and faculty resources, meet others who share your interest in public affairs, and experience Ithaca's beauty and cultural resources.

Sincerely,

David B. Lewis
Director
