New Orleans Initiative - CIPA-NOLA

CIPA-New Orleans Professional Partnership Leaders

Nadine Skinner  (nas67@cornell.edu)

Nadine is a CIPA Fellow from Oakland, California where she has worked for several years in youth services.  Her concentration at CIPA is on social policy, with a particular interest in education policy and international exchange.  Last year's service trip was Nadine's first time visiting New Orleans, where she was impressed by the amount of work that needed to be done, the commitment of the volunteers there, and the passion the residents had towards their community.  She also thinks that there is nowhere better to be than in New Orleans when it is still freezing in Ithaca and she loves getting the chance to use a sledge hammer and a crowbar.  She hopes that through CIPA-NOLA, other fellows will get the opportunity to engage in revitalizing New Orleans.

Sara Rudow   (sar227@cornell.edu)

Sara is a CIPA Fellow originally from White Plains, NY.  She came to CIPA with a background in government and social work, and is concentrating in social policy, with a particular interest in aging.  Sara was fortunate to be one of the first six CIPA students to volunteer in New Orleans as a resident of the Live St. Bernard house, and was inspired by the dedication of networks of volunteers, professionals and families to revitalize their communities.  She hopes that CIPA-NOLA will enable current and future CIPA students to contribute to the ongoing effort to rebuild New Orleans in a sound and sustainable manner.

Justin Villere  (jmv85@cornell.edu)

Justin is a CIPA Fellow from Monument, Colorado concentrating in government, politics, and policy studies, with an emphasis in civic participation.  Before coming to Ithaca, he served in AmeriCorps*NCCC, a national service program for young adults.  His service brought him to the Gulf Coast, and his projects included a two-month stint in New Orleans doing hurricane recovery.  This experience hooked him to the rebuilding process, and his work with CIPA-NOLA allows him to continue the commitment he made to the city. He believes CIPA-NOLA can be a sustainable program for CIPA students to put into practice the material they learn during their graduate studies while meeting a crucial social need.
